For the LuxePack conference, I developed an interactive iPad app for Sappi that educated users on selecting premium packaging materials. The app created an engaging tactile experience by encouraging visitors to handle physical packaging samples while navigating through data-driven content about quality considerations. Designed as a trade show kiosk solution, the app featured always-on functionality with automatic reset capabilities during idle periods, and included interactive Q&A sessions to facilitate deeper engagement with potential clients.

Betches

Shopify, Wordpress, and more

Betches is a hilarious and empowering media brand with millions of subscribers on social media. In addition to maintaining their content-focused main website (betches.com), I have created many websites for Betches. One key project was the redesign and development of a mobile-optimized Shopify storefront (shop.betches.com), built in the Liquid framework and Javascript. The redesign led to a significant increase in mobile traffic by 31% and an 8% increase in conversions. For the launch of the Faux Pas Cocktails brand, I built digital quiz applications for sharing and promotion on social media while guiding a third-party agency that developed the brand's main website. I've helped the company save time, such as adding automation features to automatically import podcast content, totaling 3,235 episodes at the date of writing. In addition, I've created various standalone websites to market individual events and promotions, including the signup pages and workflows for 11+ email newsletters.

Vue application with serverless backend

The Investable World Site project involved collaboration with a small team, a demanding technical scope, and a tight timeline. The goal was to build a 27-page ESG-focused website in time for a looming brand debut. The site utilized the Vue framework and the Contentstack platform to deliver a robust, high-quality website that fits the client's existing structure and expectations. With a focus on meeting the technical requirements and delivering within the given timeline, I pushed myself to learn the client's systems quickly to deliver a finished product.

I have helped create websites for new initiatives at ISRG, such as Prossimo (Memory-safe code; memorysafety.org) and Divvi Up (privacy-preserving analytics; divviup.org). In addition to these sites, I help maintain their other websites, including Let's Encrypt (letsencrypt.org) and ISRG's website (abetterinternet.org). These websites use the Hugo framework.

WordPress theme development

The Veeva Medtech website project involved creating a standalone site for Veeva's MedTech brand, resulting in a WordPress site with over 50 pages. The site used the latest version of the Bootstrap framework, Bootstrap 5, compared to the main Veeva website which used Bootstrap 3. The project also included feature development and bug fixing for various Veeva websites across multiple markets, including the EU and Asia-Pacific, ensuring that users in these regions have a seamless experience while interacting with the site. Additionally, I worked on various aspects of the original Veeva site, including rewriting the navigation system to align with AA accessibility principles, ensuring that the site is easily accessible to all users. I also got to push the envelope of their existing design system, such as with the 'diamond' modules seen below.

Animated Annual Report website

Annual Reports are a vital piece of communication, especially for financial companies. Aimed at investors, a well-crafted Annual Report shares the state of the company. Financial performance is a critical piece, but only a small part of the picture, so the Annual Report website lets leadership connect with investors on a personal level and comment on how current events affect the moral imperatives that drive a company's decisions. For this client's Annual Report website, I built an animated homepage that seamlessly transitions into subpages. Animated features bring life to statistics and story content. Embedded videos allow leaders to tell their own stories.

The Polaroid Wall is a Swift application that features an enormous photo wall with 2,620 photos chronicling 20 years of the IPA Production House, a film company in Chicago, IL. Users can zoom in and explore the collage freely or choose from a selection of predetermined paths to tour photo sequences grouped by an individual's name, themes like technology and milestones, or by year. By converting what used to be a series of poster boards into an app, the app enables hundreds of people to relive some fun memories of the past and share their stories with others. The Polaroid Wall proved to be a creative challenge, given the desired experience was to zoom in and out on a grid of 2,620 photos. I converted the >100 MB master image into "map tiles" - the name for individual squares of a map (such as Google Maps). The app uses six levels of detail, allowing the ability to zoom in and out freely. I enjoyed using the iOS Maps API in an entirely non-traditional manner.

As lead developer, I advised the content and design teams on how best to create a responsive experience and coded major portions of the site's frontend and backend code, API-driven pages, and more. Our content team used a content management tool, GatherContent, to share and edit content with the client. I eased the content entry by importing the content via a custom tool and created a heavily-customized backend using a series of modules within Advanced Custom Fields. Belgard

Award-nominated eCommerce development

Belgard sells pavers and other 'hardscapes,' which, due to the expense of shipping stone and heavy fragile materials, makes their product catalog vary heavily across the US and Canada. They needed a website that could detect a user's location and show a customized product catalog to reduce the burden on their sales team of managing multiple product variations.

I built upon a proprietary CMS to manage their complex product catalog, including the development of a 'Style File' feature allowing any product, image, or content article on the website to be shared to bookmark folders for future perusal and inspiration. We developed an 'inspiration' page that showcased various configurations of Belgard products through photography, helping visitors dream up new ways Belgard products could beautify their homes.

Belgard has a vast network of contractors whom they consider strategic partners. I built a map lookup feature to find Belgard contractors and showrooms, so homeowners could find someone trustworthy and experienced with Belgard products to install in their homes. Additionally, a second site experience is geared toward these contractors, allowing them to look up documentation, specs, hatchery patterns, and other materials necessary for pulling off the high design standards Belgard sets for their contractors. These two separate sites share a single CMS to reduce the burden of content entry across multiple places.

In addition to all of this, Belgard's product data had never been fully organized before, with much of their information in PDFs and brochures. I worked with a dedicated and hard-working content manager to adapt their products into detailed spreadsheets, including the catalog and renaming of over 3,000 images, PDFs, and similar assets. I wrote a script to process and import the content of these spreadsheets, saving weeks (and budget) to prevent a content manager from having to do it all manually.

Citadel refreshed 3 of its websites (Citadel.com, Citadel Securities, Citadel Technologies), looking to unify the branding across all three. Because of Citadel's position in the financial industry, they preferred a set of static site templates to host the site to reduce vandalism by hackers. I worked with a developer to build a static export plugin that converted the WordPress pages into a static site and automatically deployed to their hosting server, all without leaving the WordPress backend. This allowed a content manager on Citadel's network to make website updates, but retain a higher level of security.
